EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing is an evidence-based and incredibly effective way to treat trauma.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) can be an extremely effective and efficient way to treat trauma and other issues that individuals need to resolve. It can be utilized to treat phobias, anxiety, depression and it's a great way to help people build confidence and enhance performance. EMDR often takes less time than other forms of therapy.

Most notable about EMDR is that it helps the brain to tap into its own ability to self-heal without having to rehash all the details of a traumatic event. Unlike traditional talk therapy, where success depends on what a client is willing to share with a therapist, EMDR helps clients recall distressing memories and see disturbing information in a new and less emotional way.

When someone is triggered by a traumatic memory, part of the brain is physically and emotionally responding to the original trauma. Whether it be a single incident trauma, an early relationship/developmental trauma, loss of a loved one or a series of ongoing traumas or issues, EMDR gets to the source of the original trauma. EMDR uses several different types of bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tappers, tapping) to help clients to reprocess painful or disturbing memories. EMDR has the effect of moving psychological memory to objective memory - desensitizing the memory’s impact on the individual's current life.

EMDR works cross-culturally, and is touted by the World Health Organization (WHO) as being the most effective treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

EMDR is effective for:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Trauma
  • PTSD
  • Insecurity, fears & phobias
  • Unprocessed grief
  • Creativity & performance blocks
  • Addictive & compulsive behaviors
  • Chronic pain conditions

Brainspotting

To help you achieve optimal wellbeing, I offer Brainspotting, an amazing brain/body therapeutic model for healing from a variety of physical and emotional ailments naturally.

Brainspotting is an effective and focused treatment that combines knowledge from EMDR and Somatic Experiencing. It harnesses the brain’s natural self-scanning capacity, using the visual field to activate, locate and process sources of trauma and distress held in the more intuitive mid-brain. This leads to the processing and release of the core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, dissociation, and an array of other challenging symptoms. The result is a deep and accelerated healing.

Brainspotting can also be very effective in helping to enhance performance. Whether it is acting, sports, public speaking, job performance, or anything at which a person wants to get better, Brainspotting can enhance performance and decrease stress or anxiety about the task.

Brainspotting can help with:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Trauma
  • PTSD
  • Insecurity, fears & phobias
  • Unprocessed grief
  • Creativity & performance blocks
  • Sports performance & creativity enhancement
  • Addictive & compulsive behaviors
  • Chronic pain conditions

How does it work?

Talk therapy engages the neocortex–our thinking, conscious brain–while somatic therapies (such as Brainspotting) access the subcortical system where trauma and distress are often stored. Current research in neuroscience reveals that painful memories can get stuck in a timeless state in the non-verbal, non-cognitive subcortical brain, negatively affecting how we feel and function in the here and now. Some people experience anxiety, depression or just the sense of not feeling like themselves.

Brainspotting is a revolutionary treatment that uses relevant eye positions and Biolateral sound to access the brain-body’s innate self-scanning and self-healing capacities. Because our eyes connect directly to the subcortical, mid-brain, Brainspotting helps release unpleasant, stored experiences by processing through the visual field. This supports the resolution of painful or traumatic experiences, allowing for deep and rapid healing.
