Jenny Williams, Therapist & Coach

HELLO AND WELCOME!

I'm Jenny.

As a licensed therapist and coach, I provide my clients with the most up-to-date change strategies in order to help them achieve their highest potential in life, business, and art.

My therapy style is personable, warm, and insightful. Our work together will enhance your natural creativity, and support you on your journey to increased self-awareness, confidence, and fulfillment.

Your experience of therapy is as unique as you are. With this in mind, I offer a holistic and highly personalized approach, tailored to your specific strengths and circumstances. I deeply value the relationship created in therapy and offer a respectful, flexible, creative, and collaborative space where you'll be accepted and welcomed just as you are. You are the expert on your life and experiences, and I will step alongside you for a time lending my own knowledge, skills, and experience in service of your growth. In our work together, many of my clients start to notice an organic shift toward a state of emotional health and creative vitality, moving from feeling stuck or struggling in "survival mode" to thriving in their lives and careers.

MY APPROACH

My approach focuses on clearing unresolved painful past experiences that affect your confidence, creativity, and connection with others in the here and now. Past traumas and painful life experiences often underlie anxiety, depression, and other difficulties that bring otherwise high-performing people into therapy. Working through the lens of neuroscience and the body, I specialize in healing trauma and adverse experiences on a neurobiological level to help you create a life that is not dictated by the past. Healing unresolved hurts from the past can greatly improve well-being and quality of life, leading to a greater sense of freedom, empowerment, and aliveness in the present.

My orientation is psychodynamic, and I work primarily from what's known as a relational and attachment-oriented perspective. I often integrate other types of therapy depending on your needs, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Depending on your interest, we may combine talk therapy with research-based mind-body practices including Brainspotting, EMDR, and mindfulness to support trauma recovery and enhance creativity and performance. I have extensive training in these areas and have helped countless clients make significant improvements in their personal, professional, and creative lives.

I believe that everyone deserves a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated ally to support them when life gets complicated.

my background

I was inspired to become a therapist after experiencing the transformational power of conscious, compassionate self-observation via my own training in mindfulness and meditation. Prior to becoming a psychotherapist I trained in acting and the dramatic arts in the UK, and worked as a writer, director and performer in both London and New York. I continue to be passionate about artistic expression, and love working with those who are too.

As a Briton who has lived and worked in the US for more than 15 years, I bring a unique international perspective to my work. I am sensitive to the complexities of cross-cultural living, and enjoy exploring issues of acculturation, identity and all aspects of migration (including the overall experience of not-being-at-home).

MY experience

I have been working in the field of mental health since 2007, when I began my career as a research assistant in the Department of Psychiatry at Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan. I received my MSW from UCLA, and completed my psychodynamic clinical training in the Department of Psychiatry at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center. I completed post-graduate training at Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services in Los Angeles, providing individual, family, group, and school counseling to children and families. I then worked in a private group practice in West LA, providing trauma-focused psychotherapy to actors and entertainment industry professionals. Prior to opening my own private practice in Manhattan, I spent several years working at a counseling and wellness practice, running a meditation and mindfulness group and providing individual and couples therapy to creative professionals in the lgbtq+ community.

My work is both artful and rooted in sound, evidence-based techniques, drawing from attachment and object-relations theories, trauma and somatic perspectives, positive psychology, and current research in neuroscience.

MY Specializations

I have many advanced certifications including Brainspotting, a revolutionary brain-body treatment method grounded in research on the role of the deep brain in storing traumatic experiences. Brainspotting helps focus and process emotional and somatic problems that may be inaccessible to the conscious mind. It can also be very effective in helping to dissolve creative blocks, and to enhance creativity and performance

I have an extensive background in meditation and mindful awareness, and am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for healing of traumatic and adverse experiences. My commitment to seeking new educational opportunities and ongoing consultation in my specialty areas allows me to stay at the cutting edge of my field, enhancing my craft and practice to better help my clients heal and thrive.

I provide specialized services for creative professionals, artists, and entrepreneurs, helping them transform trauma and painful past experiences in order to improve their thought patterns and relationships and to more fruitfully pursue their creative aspirations.
